^{May 4, 2022} Huen Electric Completes Work on One of Chicago’s Tallest Skyscrapers

The new One Chicago high rise includes retail, office and residential units covering an entire city block

Huen Electric crews have helped transform the Windy City skyline with their buildout work on One Chicago, a near-supertall skyscraper under design-build construction in the River North/Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago.

Built through “top down” construction, the 2.1 million-square-foot, mixed-use complex topped out in the summer of 2021 and was completed the following year.

Huen Electric performed all the residential unit electrical work on the project for Power Residential LLC, which involved nearly 100 floors with 11-14 units each. In addition to the immense size, the team had to overcome the complex logistics of downtown construction sites, manage masking and social distancing constraints during COVID-19 which affected both material delivery and vertical transportation.

Despite a tight schedule, Huen Electric’s team was able to successfully execute all the work thanks to a great crew and established best practices including prefabrication of all possible components. They prefabricated conduit for slab, conduit and boxes for the walls, and components for fixtures in the warehouse. Prefabricated components were then delivered to the work site for installation at the appropriate stage of construction.

Choosing prefabrication reduced production costs and saved time, helping Huen Electric stay on or ahead of the tight schedule throughout the project.

With more than 700 units, including high-end condos on the top floors, the repetition of many floor layouts quickly became an efficiency advantage.

“There’s a learning curve for the first few floors, but then you start getting better and better,” Huen Electric Project Manager Michael Koyfman explained.
